Responsibilities for the role include:
Depending on the role in the project, responsibilities may include and are not limited to:
Provide system safety assessment covering the entire technical spectrum of a complete railway project, including:
- Track civil infrastructure and structural engineering (i.e. stations, tunnels and viaducts, earthworks)
- Mechanical & electrical engineering (i.e. Earthing & Lightning protection and EMC)
- Railway systems (i.e. telecommunications and SCADA)
- Signaling systems (i.e. generic and specific signaling applications according to EN and IEC standards)
- Traction power
- Power supply and distribution (inc. overhead line electrification)
- Testing & commissioning
- Operations and maintenance
- Fire protection, emergency, and rescue concepts (including railway stations, tunnels and vehicles)
- Management processes for example:
- Quality management and quality control (inc. lead assessor and lead audit)
- Risk management
- Safety and RAM engineering
- System integration and interface management (i.e. System/System and System/Civil Works, etc.)
- Verification and validation
- Change Control and configuration management
- Contribute to the different Project Documents/Submittals in due time and with the required level of quality
- Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to the role
- Help manage any external resources; Schedule and participate in periodic commissioning meetings; Attend construction and coordination meetings if required for the project;
- Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors and owners agents as needed; Execute project assignments; Interface with project contractors, vendors, and testing technicians; Interact with all facets of the company: engineering, design, etc.
- Organize and prioritize tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Produce and review reports, analyses, specifications, calculations, drawings, plans, etc. as required
- Hands on execution
Requirements of the role are:
- Software / Systems / Electrical / Mechanical / Civil Engineer with a holistic, systemic view of the projects
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience on large scale Rail/Metro projects with Civil, MEP and System background
- A minimum of 5 years of experience with Independent Safety Assessment (ISA)
- Have a holistic approach for the design and assessment of railway projects
- Experience in Design Build Projects
- Have a view of, and perform a practical implementation of, a holistic top-down systems engineering approach that considers the System as a whole (not a collection of individual systems, or projects)
- Have experience in the application of a lifecycle approach (the entire spectrum of activity for a given system, commencing with the identification of need and extending through system design and development, construction/manufacture/installation, operational use and maintenance, system retirement and disposal).
- Have a holistic understanding of the following systems assurance processes:
- Verification and validation management
- Change management
- Configuration management
- Extensive knowledge with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Handbook for Safety & Security Certification
- Extensive knowledge of the CSM (Common Safety Method)
- Experience about processes and requirements in EN 50126
- Desirable experience in rail/transit operations and maintenance
- Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards and processes
- Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
- Excellent organizational, multi-task, time management and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with Requirement Management tools: DOORS NG, Comply Pro, etc.
- Ability to develop non-standard solutions
- Ability to multi-task, establish priorities and self-organize efficiently
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, including but not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors and third parties
- Willingness to learn, develop and apply new techniques, standards, and processes
- Advanced user of Microsoft Office 365
- Business fluency in English, both written and verbal is a must
